Description:

19th c. Tea Caddy with Beautiful Inlay
This is one of the most beautiful tea caddies that we have had the pleasure of selling. It is made of nicely grained mahogany with satinwood and walnut banding. The inlay on it is absolutely amazing. Starting with the lid: A large shell inlay with banding around the top of the lid. Lion mask handles on each side, a border of inlay on the front and two sides and a bone escutcheon for the working lock which does come with the key. All resting on small ball feet. Inside, there are three lidded tea compartments with the lids being banded with inlay and knobs. The silver paper inside each compartment might be a replacement as it looks excellent. Flaws? There is a burn area on top around the shell where perhaps the sand extended too far. There is a past repair on the lower right corner and that is about it. You can see both of these in the photos. Otherwise again, one of the most beautiful tea caddies we have seen. Measurements are 12" wide by 6 1/4" deep and stands 6 3/4" tall.
