Description:

100% original and completely intact 45-70 caliber ‘trapdoor' model with its original old parts, screw, and butt plate, which are all intact and are all in pristine uncleaned condition. It is missing the Buffington sight. It also exhibits a very pleasing extremely well patinated overall finish. Acquired by the Indians at some point and adorned with their traditional geometrically designed applied tack decorations. This rifle was deaccessioned from the Warner Southern College in Lake Wales, Florida Museum Collection and has been in the consignor's possession for many years. Measures 40 1/8" in overall length and is identified with the Serial Number 337922. Research discovered that a similar rifle, a U.S. Model 1873 Springfield Trapdoor Carbine, which was proven to be at the battle of Little Big Horn, sold two years ago for over $80,000!! We make no extremely lofty assumptions about this one but we do know, given its superb tack decoration and its overall originality and fine condition, that it is a quite rare gun and it no doubt has significant value.
