Description:

Circa 1920's and measures 46 /2" tall. Marked White Oak Foundry, Bacova, Virginia. Some surface rust as seen in the photographs. White Oak Foundry, owned by a Malcolm Hirsch was known for these cast iron jockeys and supplied the 21 Club in NYC in addition to famous stables in Kentucky. Very heavy. I have had questions about the history of the jockey and I was first introduced to "Jocko" about 15 years ago. He originally welcomed visitors at a prominent Lexington equestrian clothier and was there for many years. He then was purchased by my neighbor and sat in the garage for many years and when they moved, he also moved to Bentley & Murray here in Winchester welcoming visitors to that shop that sells antiques, decor items and fragrances and owned by two of the nicest people around. (great store if you are ever in Winchester) Now he can grace your homestead or shop as he still has a lot of life in him.
