Collection of Vice President Alben Barkley's Memorabilia, Milking Stool and Autographs
Who doesn't like Alben Barkley? He was the 35th Vice President of the United States under Harry Truman and one of Kentucky's own. Own a piece of history with this lot. Acquired through an auction held in 1989 of Barkley's estate and now can be acquired by you. A newspaper article on the auction that references the milking stool is included with the lot. First the milking stool......Interesting piece of history as Barkley was given a seal on the stool from his consulate when he visited Shanghai. The seal has his name and represented by Chinese ideographs and the seal is explained on a label on the underneath of the stool, in addition to the ideographs painted on the top. It is a black painted milking stool resting on the customary three legs. Diameter of 9 1/4" and 12 1/2" in height. As you can by the photos, it is in good condition and ready to display or use..
Now for the immense amount of memorabilia: Hint...Alben's nickname was "The Veep".
Autographed 8" by 10" photos of Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Trigger and Alben. Alben is on Trigger. The only signatures not on these is Triggers.
A sad letter signed by Mr. and Mrs. Red Skelton, dated 1957 to Alben's son "Bud", for thanks of the rememberance of their son who tragically died at the age of 9 from leukemia.
Now for the family photos. Jane Hadley was Alben's second wife and both were widowed. He married her in 1949 when she was 37 and he was 71.
8 by 10's photos include:
