Description:

In the Gothic Revival style and circa 1860, this group of fine bedroom furniture was previously owned by the McDowell family who resided at Ashland Estate. This set came out of the house where it has been on display for many years. The set includes a nicely carved full size bed in what we believe to be in original finish with carved wood on the headboard, footboard, and side rails. In general good condition, it does show some wear due to age and use over the years. Measures 88" long, 76" wide and is 85" tall at the headboard. The armoire a great carved top gallery, two arched mirrors in the doors, bracket feet and again, believed to be in the original finish. Noted is some "cloudiness" in the mirrors which is what you would expect from the original. Inside consists of two drawers behind each door with shelving on the left side and an open area for hanging clothes on the right. 66" wide by 24" deep and stands 103" tall. The next piece of the set is a four drawer serpentine dresser with marble top and an ornate carved frame for the mirror. Please note the animal heads on each side of the mirror frame. We believe these to be the original wood pulls. Both frame and mirror in good condition but missing one wooden escutcheon on the right side. 49 1/4" wide by 23 1/4" deep and stands 78 1/2" to top of mirror frame. The last piece is the serpentine fronted washstand. Fantastic fluted columns with a marble top with shelf up top. There are two doors and when opened exposes shelving. 41 1/2" wide by 23" deep and stands 41" tall. In good condition but noted the piece of marble in the bottom probably is not original to the piece as it does not fit square with the opening. This suite of furniture has been deaccessioned from the Ashland Estate and sold with proceeds to benefit the HCMF Acquisition Fund to acquire new artifacts and provide direct care to the existing collection
