Description:

Superb Circa 1860's Watercolor by Myles Birket Foster
Circa 1860's Masterwork Watercolor Painting by Myles Birket Foster. R.W.S (Royal Watercolour Society)- Foster was a prolific highly renowned and regarded British watercolorist, illustrator, and engraver born in 1825 and died in 1899. He was an elected Associate of the Royal Watercolour Society. Incredibly, he contributed over 400 artworks between 1859 and 1881 to its proclaimed Royal Academy exhibitions. He has auction records that exceed $200,000. including numerous watercolor paintings that have fetched over $80,000. auctioned over the past several decades by the likes of Sotheby's, Christie's Bonham's, Phillips, and others. This work is in literally showroom perfect condition housed in a very ornate, thick, and heavy wooden frame which appears to be unaltered and undisturbed in any way since it was framed over 100 years ago by carver and gilder James Hilliard of Bolton, England (old label on frames reverse). The scene depicts Classical Ruins, possibly the Parthenon, and is signed with Foster's very recognizable monogram in the lower left. The detail of this painting will leave you speechless. He was a true master painter, considered by many as Britain's greatest. Every aspect considered, this is a very rare offering and is an artwork that is bound to continue to appreciate. Measures 11" wide x 10" tall ready to collect, hang, and enjoy.
