Description:

Vintage Brass Fog Horn
Featuring vintage brass fog horn, a classic maritime signaling device. This fog horn features a long cylindrical body with a narrower mouthpiece attachment, and a black strap for easy carrying or hanging. The brass construction gives it a timeless, nautical aesthetic, and the visible seam running vertically along the main cylinder highlights its traditional craftsmanship. This piece is not only a functional item but also a beautiful decorative object for any maritime enthusiast or collector.
Brass fog horns were essential tools for maritime navigation before the advent of electronic signaling devices. They were used to emit loud sounds that could travel over long distances, especially in foggy conditions where visibility was poor. These horns helped ships communicate with each other and with shore facilities, ensuring safe passage and preventing collisions. The use of brass for these horns was due to its durability and resistance to corrosion, making it ideal for the harsh marine environment. This particular fog horn likely dates back to the late 19th to early 20th century, a period when such devices were commonly used on ships around the world.
It is 24" tall.
